National Organization Collaborates with Local Theatre Production to Help Make Dreams Come True for Area Children

Producers of a new community theatre production, “Dust Bowl Motel,” which opens this spring at The Crighton Theatre in Conroe, have announced a new collaboration with Make-A-Wish® Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana to establish a production fundraising initiative providing proceeds from the play to the non-profit foundation.

Centered on the struggles, heartbreak and dreams of one woman’s journey to find happiness, “Dust Bowl Motel,” a new play by Scott McCarley and Jim Roth, combines acting and storytelling with video, accompanied by live, homegrown, Texas music to capture a unique theatre experience.  The development of the play was a dream - four years in the making - for McCarley, who has always been interested in music and writing and has spent many years at the Kerrville Folk Festival performing and cultivating a network of talented singer/songwriter friends. Fortunately some of those friends were willing to lend her talents help make “Dust Bowl Motel” a reality.

After a sold out production last year in Huntsville, Texas McCarley is thrilled to bring the show to Conroe’s Crighton Theatre as a fundraising initiative. “The show was a dream for me that has now been brought to reality, so to partner with a great organization like Make-A-Wish® -- who is making special dreams come true for to so many deserving kids is very rewarding,” explained McCarley.

Make-A-Wish® Texas Gulf Coast & Louisiana, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, granted more than 500 wishes for local children within its territory in 2014 alone. Chrissy Mafrige serves as a Board member, Wish grantor, and Wishmaker for this local Make-A-Wish® chapter. She worked with McCarley to establish the fundraising initiative with “Dust Bowl Motel” in part, to build awareness in the area about the mission and work of the non-profit organization. “When wish kids are granted a wish, they get much more than just a great experience. That experience improves the quality of life for them and their entire family,” said Mafrige. “I’m excited to partner with this upcoming production to help raise money for the Foundation, but also to share the stories of wishes granted for children in our region, wishes that would otherwise not have been possible without the support and special connections Make-A-Wish® provides.”

“Dust Bowl Motel” makes its Conroe, Texas premiere March 18 and will run through March 20, 2016 at The Crighton Theatre.  More information and ticket details can be found online at:http://www.dustbowlmotel.org/
